Full Day Perth & Environs Birding & Wildlife Tour
This full day private tour is designed to see a range of habitats in the Perth area, including urban wetlands, jarrah forest and woodlands, the coast and the Swan River. We expect to see 80-110 species depending on the season and the weather.
We begin at Herdsman Lake in Perth’s inner western suburbs where the numbers of waterbirds is overwhelming. Most duck species occur here including Musk and Blue-billed and on rare occasions, Australia’s rarest, the Freckled Duck. Egrets, Herons, Ibis and Spoonbills are common and Buff-banded Rails are sometimes seen foraging under the melaleucas.
Raptors such as Whistling Kite, Swamp Harrier and Australian Hobby are regularly spotted and in the warmer months Tiger Snakes can be seen basking in the mown grassy edges.
The Darling Ranges to the east of Perth support a range of eucalypt forest habitats which in turn support a number of endemic bird species. Western Rosellas, Red-capped Parrots, Baudin’s Black-cockatoo as well as Red-winged Fairywren, Western Spinebill and White-breasted Robin can all be found here. Other frequently sought after species include Western Yellow Robin, Rufous Treecreeper and Red-tailed Black-cockatoo.
After lunch we travel back down on to the plains and across to Woodman Point on the coast. Pelicans, cormorants and waders such as Red-capped Plover and Australian Pied Oystercatcher are frequently found here as well as migratory species such as Grey Plover, Sharp-tailed Sandpiper and Red-necked Stint. Caspian, Great Crested and the tiny Fairy Tern are also here and we may even spot a skua or two further out in the Indian Ocean.
Our final spot for the day is Alfred Cove, a sheltered and shallow bay on Perth’s Swan River where Ospreys breed and large flocks of migratory waders can be seen in the warmer months.

4 Day / 3 Night South West of Western Australia Birding & Wildlife Tour – from Perth
Day 1. We begin this 4 day / 3 night private tour with a quick visit to one of Perth's magnificent wetlands where we can see Blue-billed and Musk Ducks along with many other water birds and quite possibly, coiled Tiger Snakes sunning themselves in the grassy margins.
From there it's up into the Darling Ranges where we will stop along the way to look for endemic birds such as Baudin's Black-cockatoo, Red-capped Parrot, Western Rosella, Western Spinebill and White-breasted Robin. Most likely we’ll come across our first marsupials, the large Western Grey Kangaroo or the diminutive Western Brush-wallaby.
The Dryandra Woodlands is our destination and it is here that we will look for the endangered Carnaby's Black-cockatoo, Blue-breasted Fairy-wren, Western Thornbill, and Purple-crowned Lorikeet. We’ll also look out for native animals such as the termite-eating Numbat, Western Australia’s faunal emblem, and the charming, hedgehog-like Echidna, both species unusual in being diurnal inhabit. In the evening we’ll return to try or own fortunes with the spotlight, hoping to see Tammar Wallabies, Woylies, Possums, Phascogales, and nocturnal birds such as the Bush Stone-curlew and Tawny Frogmouth.
Overnight, we’ll stay in motel accommodation in nearby Narrogin
Day 2. Heading south we pass through the beautiful Stirling Ranges where we'll stop for lunch and search for Western Yellow Robin, Purple-gaped and Tawny-crowned Honeyeaters and Elegant Parrot. Late afternoon brings us to the South Coast where we will begin our search for the notorious and often elusive trio of Noisy Scrub-bird, Western Bristle-bird and Western Whipbird.
Overnight we’ll stay in chalet-style accommodation with ensuite facilities at Cheynes Beach Caravan Park where we'll also find Brush Bronzewing and Western Spinebill are quite common.
Day 3. We continue our search for the elusive trio and hope to also add Southern Emu-wren, Red-winged Fairy-wren and Red-eared Firetail to our tally. We may even see the marsupial Quenda or Brown Bandicoot, which is sometimes active during the day.
Later in the morning we head westwards towards the tall forest country around Pemberton and Manjimup but enroute, we'll stop to look at Lake Muir, a Ramsar listed wetland, where we'll find the geographically limited population of the Western Corella (known as Muir's Corella).
In Pemberton itself we'll visit one of the fire look-out trees, the Gloucester Tree, where we'll find Western Rosella, White-breasted Robin, Red-winged Fairy-wren and Common Bronzewing are all fairly tame and not at all camera-shy! As evening approaches we may be lucky enough to see the unusual rat-like Quokka.
Overnight in motel accommodation in Pemberton.
Day 4. Our final day and a longish drive back to Perth but not without a quick stop off at Penguin Island along the way. Here we’ll visit the Discovery Centre where injured or orphaned Little Penguins are rehabilitated and released back to the wild. The island is also home to nesting Pelicans and Bridled Terns as well as the imposing King’s Skink and the not-so-shy Buff-banded Rail. We may even see Arctic Jaegers harassing the terns as we take the short ferry ride across to the island.
We arrive back in Perth late in the afternoon.
This 4 day/3 night tour is fully accommodated in 3-4 star motel style accommodation except for Cheynes Beach where comfortable cabins with ensuite facilities are available.

8 Day / 7 Night South West of Western Australia Wildlife Tour – from Perth
Day 1. Guests are collected from the airport and taken to our hotel in the city centre, or will meet our guide at our hotel where we will have dinner. Depending on flight arrival time we may first have the opportunity to visit Perth's beautiful King's Park where many species of cockatoos, parrots and honeyeaters abound.

In the evening we’ll return to Dryandra and join a tour of the famous Barna Mia Sanctuary, where captive breeding is ensuring the survival of critically endangered and curiously named marsupials like bilbies, bettongs and Hare-wallabies.
Day 3: We explore the Dryandra woodland further expecting to see Western Gerygone, Rufous Treecreeper, Scarlet Robin, Varied Sittella and Restless Flycatcher. In the evening we’ll return again to try or own fortunes with the spotlight, hoping to see Tammar Wallabies, Woylies, Possums, Phascogales, and nocturnal birds such as the Bush Stone-curlew and Tawny Frogmouth.
Overnight Narrogin
